What is a presence / absence check in machine vision?
A presence check confirms a required part (a clip, screw, gasket, cap, or label) is present and correctly seated. An absence check confirms something that should NOT be there is gone, such as a protective film removed or no foreign object in the cavity. FlexIPS classifies each region of interest as present, missing, wrong, or foreign, re-testing every cycle until the check passes.

Can it detect foreign objects and wrong parts?
Yes. In addition to present / missing, FlexIPS flags wrong-variant parts, mis-oriented parts, and foreign objects such as swarf, leftover film, or a tool left in the work area, then routes the unit to FlexCheck with the region highlighted and labeled with the action to take.
What happens when a part is missing?
The station returns a FAIL verdict and will not release the unit. The failed region is highlighted on the stored image with a clear action label (rework, check, or controlled override), and the result is logged to the serial for traceability and root-cause analysis.
Do I need vision expertise to set up recipes?
No. Recipes are no-code: draw the regions of interest, set the expected state for each, and deploy. When you change variants, the recipe updates automatically with the work order, so one station can run high-mix production without reprogramming.
How many regions can be inspected at once?
Dozens of regions of interest are checked in one cycle, across one or more cameras. Each ROI gets its own classification and confidence score, all captured and stored against the serial. The check repeats each cycle until every region passes.
What is the difference between a presence check and an absence check?
A presence check verifies something that SHOULD be there is there (a clip, a screw, a label). An absence check verifies something that should NOT be there is gone (a protective film removed, no foreign object, no leftover material). FlexIPS runs both in the same inspection, classifying each region against its expected state.
How does it handle part position variation?
FlexIPS locates the part or feature each cycle and aligns the inspection regions to the corrected position, so a part that shifts slightly on the pallet is still inspected correctly. For fixed parts, a locating fixture can be used; for flexible parts, vision-based alignment handles the offset automatically.
